Keto & PCOS

Last year I was diagnosed with PCOS, also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. PCOS is “A hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges.” Below is a picture that gives you a better example if you are more visual.

I have a lot of cysts so after talking to my specialist I have decided to have a procedure done that is called Ovarian Drilling. PCOS isn’t all about the cysts. A person can have irregular periods, hair growth and acne. I actually had none of those symptoms. I went in to establish care but since I had an abnormal pap and history of Uterine Cancer Cells they wanted to do an ultrasound, after getting the ultrasound I was diagnosed. PCOS is the leading cause of infertility in woman yet I have two children. My previous doctor had no reason to suspect PCOS, even with that being said it can be easily missed by doctors for numerous reasons. PCOS is also closely linked to insulin resistance and woman can have pre-diabetic symptoms. Metformin helps control these symptoms. A low glycemic diet is recommended to pre-diabetic patients and can be helpful in treatment. This is where my Keto “diet” came into play but it is more of a lifestyle change then diet.

I have been using the KetoFinder app, as a mom on the go constantly it really helps! I also use Total Keto Diet a lot because it helps with the basics of Keto and gives you tons of easy recipes. Below is what each app looks like if ya’ll are having trouble finding them.

I haven’t been doing Keto long but I can definitely tell a difference. I have lost ten pounds in just the last week. It is not always easy and I feel it’s more so a lifestyle change but I am liking it very much so far and I have been lucky enough to avoid a Keto Flu, I have had some symptoms but not severe.
